Newsletter #70, by Lewis (UK) (9 December 2013)

Hello there!

With the International Retreat coming up very soon, and several overseas sadhaks (disciples) going for the one in Goa, India, later on this year (2013) we’re happy to have a chance and share some International Retreat experiences by those who been there before. We thought these might look nice in as the JCO Newsletter 🙂

Thanks to Anthony Griffiths (UK) for sharing these with us!

Today we will continue with Lewis’s experience at International Retreats for overseas Sadhaks at Samarpan Ashram, Dandi, India. Enjoy!

TOPIC FOR THE WEEK – Experiences from the international Retreat #3, by Lewis (UK).

The Dandi ashram is situated on the coast, surrounded by nature. The only neighbour is a small village 3km away down the beach.

Geographical isolation from mainstream society and a close relationship with nature makes the atmosphere pure and unpolluted. It’s a blank canvas, which the resident sadhaks and Samarpan community, for the sake of metaphoric continuity I’ll say painted, the sadhaks, people of all walks of life, different nationalities and religions brought to like-minded togetherness. In our individual spiritual journeys we share the mutual path of Samarpan meditation, we folks have painted the climatic canvas in beautiful colours radiating life and happiness and love for all things.

Days in the ashram are not calendar days, yesterday and tomorrow pale into insignificance to the right now. When you stay in the ashram, you don’t stay in the building, you stay in the present. There’s no obligations for tomorrow or responsibility to yesterday, your mind is left free. To wander, enjoy the breeze through the palm leaves. Songs of birds and the ever present rhythm of Arabian waters eloping the Indian coast. Then your chitta (attention) comes to rest in happiness, because there’s no insistence from the clock and the present is bliss.

If anything to say, it’s…

    Thank you Lewis,

You’ve drawn a beautiful poetic portrait of this magical place (Dandi Ashram)… I was there while reading your description… I could feel the place through your words 🙂
