Newsletter #49, by Soha Joshi (10 June 2013)

Jai Baba Swami Everyone

I wanted to share with you all how, the following newsletter was written. Actually on 29th May 2013 during live JCO meditation session, I was having troubles with my mike and for some reason I was muted and couldn’t do anything about it. So I just accepted it as Swamiji’s wish and carried on. I also got connected for few minutes and told everyone that maybe Swamiji wanted me to keep quiet and just listen.

Then when the meditation started, I started getting the words in my head. I just flowed and started making sense. So after the meditation finished, I opened a word document and started typing out. I don’t know what has been written or if it makes sense! But I have not re-read it or changed it in anyway and am just sharing what I received.

TOPIC FOR THE WEEK – Layers of an Experience

During my stay in ashram one day I was walking to the meditation hall and suddenly I heard the Guru Mantra in a very very slow rhythm. All the thoughts disappeared and even though my eyes were open, it felt like I was in a different plane altogether.

I realized that the mantra was coming from within me and I concentrated on that. By doing that I felt every minute thing around me. I became aware of the earth beneath my feet, the smell around me, and I could also feel the wind blowing past me and touching me.

In that moment, I slowed down and even if I wanted to walk faster, I could not. Suddenly I became aware of the wind that was blowing near my ears. I heard the constant sound of “OM”. At that time, in the ashram I felt happy and realised that this must be how the sound of “OM” was found. Our Gurus must have heard this, felt this divine feeling and described this feeling, this state by the mere mention of the OM sound.

About two months after, I was attending a JCO meeting on 29th May 2013 and we were discussing of how to slow down and do things consciously. Someone said that by doing this we connect to nature around us, and it helps us to be in present. One of the techniques mentioned was the slow chanting of Guru Mantra.

This discussion reminded me of the experience and gave it a new meaning. It made me realised that if we practice chanting the Guru Mantra slowly, then eventually we will be able to constantly hear the divine sound of OM constantly.

Another thing that amazed me during this incident is that, whilst we all have experiences at different times, we may never fully understand the meaning of an experience. Because any experience does not have only one meaning! It might happen that after some time (may be a few days, months or even years) we will get a new meaning of that one experience. So there really is no end to learning!

Surprisingly (or maybe not) this was another thing that Bihagji was talking about that if (or when) our receiving increases, we can constantly learn new things from the world.

So an experience does have many layers to it, and when we are ready a new layer will be uncovered and we will be left in awe of the new meaning to our experience!

If anything to say, it’s…

Thank Soha, Jai Baba Swami! Sharing experiences enriches all of us; as we all resonate with each other on different frequences and in different ways, and as our understanding deepens so does our experiences and so it becomes an endless spiral journey of the Soul. Wow it took me right back to the ashram whilst i as reading it! Thanks for this letter!!! xxx Sophia

I have never been in an Ashram, but I meditate everywhere and anywhere: libraries, museums and churches are my favourite places. One day, during this year’s Anusthan, I was meditating at the Tate Gallery, London, close to the main entrance, when softly, I started hearing a very slow and distinct OM sound coming from the upper floor. The sound “filled” the big space around me and nothing existed apart from it. After a while I told God I would be staying in that place forever, unless someone made me leave. I can’t remember how long it lasted, my mobile rung, and when I looked at the time, there was barely enough time for me to travel back and not be late to pick up my daughter from school.
