1. FOCUS for the week – Attain Liberation in Collectivity
The focus for the week is from Samarpan Yog of the Himalayas. When I first read this section I found it to be very powerful and have always remembered it. Swamiji is feeding ants pieces of bananas and has the following reflection:
“I was happy with their sincerity towards the task. Sometimes even a small ant would drag a piece that was several times larger than its own size. It would try constantly and would carry on with the task with great commitment and hard work. This then became a great attraction to me; I would watch the ants and I would observe them but until today I haven’t seen any ant eating those pieces.
I have only ever seen them storing them. There was an amazing mechanism of organisation amongst them. I have never seen them fighting.
On their return journey they would touch their mouth to that of the arriving ants and they seemed to pass on some message and then continue moving. There was some transmission between them and I would see an amazing tool of conversation amongst them. I felt at that time that any organisational structure should be like that of these ants. Perhaps if every weak individual, every poor person, every support-less person who has no one to depend on, a person who is always busy with too many thoughts – all get together and understand first of all that they are all weak people in society who are distressed, then they will always remember that collective organisation can make them strong. They’ll realise that they are of no use by themselves and staying together is a necessity for them. All weak people in society can come together through the power of this organisation.
Similarly one should leave alone those people in society who have found Paramatma or those who don’t want to reach Paramatma at all, and form an organization of such people who have the desire to find Paramatma but don’t know how to. These are people who themselves don’t possess the physical or mental state to do so. Such people should first realise their weakened state and come together and form a good organisation for themselves. Then they will be able to attain Liberation in collectivity because their ego that ‘I can attain Liberation on my own’ will not be present in them; the ego that ‘I can do meditation’ won’t be there because they’ll realise that they can’t do anything alone.
When they realise this, they’ll start using words which are full of collectivity like – ‘we’ are meditating, ‘we’ desire Liberation, and they’ll attain Liberation in collectivity. Weak people are stronger when they are organised because they don’t have any ego, and they are aware that the organisation only is their strength.
They know that the organisation is a necessity for them. If they wish to move forward in the spiritual field, they’ll need to make organized efforts. The organized efforts of these people will bestow collectivity” (pp., 341-343)

Jai Baba Swami Thank you for this timely reminder of SwamiJis Kate and to all the divine souls on this journey who have absorbed these teachings of SwamiJi and realise that as a WE, the strength to progress spiritualy and maintain the state of liberation is there but as ‘I” we are alone and are less likely to reach the summit and stay there! As Souls we see beyond the pettiness of the physical bodies stuff, dramas, aversions and attachments and work for the common good of the SAMARPAN Organisation. PS Wishinng you an early Happy Birthday , big hugs xxxx

Hey Kate,
I loved reading this extract and could relate so deeply to it as it was a hobby for me to contemplate these “star ants” during my stay at the Ashram (Guru Purnima 2013) especially when in silence. I learnt a lot just by watching them :)! Same realization came to me and yet I had forgotten about that extract I read before!
Collectivity is power, it definitely makes us stronger!
And it just make me happy, happy to be part of it, happy to know that I’m never alone, that we can do and will do so much together and that Collectivity is not just a word but a real family, beautiful worldwide family.
Just imagine how powerful it will be when we’ll all reach our destination together?!
Wow!
Thank you Kate!
